Utah's biosciences industry accounted for 6,360 jobs in 2006, according to a study by Battelle and the Biotechnology Industry Organization.

Utah was ranked 10th among states in biosciences employment per 1 million population, with 2,466.

The study included data on national, state and metropolitan bioscience employment and growth trends from 2001 to 2006. The report said that total U.S. employment in biosciences reached 1.3 million in 2006, up from 1.2 million in 2004. Indirect and induced employment from the bioscience industry totaled an additional 6.2 million.

The number of biosciences establishments grew 32.7 percent from 2001 to 2006.
