Winner: U.S. currency never has been particularly kind to people with sight impairments. Quarters feel a lot like dollar coins. Paper money comes in one size only, regardless of denomination. So it was nice to see the unveiling this week of a new Louis Braille dollar coin that actually includes a Braille inscription. Too bad it's only a commemorative coin, but maybe it will lead to changes in everyday currency.

Loser: A legislative audit of the Utah Division of Securities, released this week, found several problems. Worst among these was a perception by people the division investigated that they did not receive fair treatment and that officials were overzealous. The report said this was because the division was not following established procedures and policies; something, we're encouraged to note, the division says it already has changed.
