LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas exploded for five runs in the eighth inning to snap a 7-7 tie as the 51s went on to defeat the Salt Lake Bees 12-9 on Monday night in Nevada.

Angel Chavez opened the inning by lifting a 1-1 pitch from Henry Bonilla (2-2) over the left-field wall to put Las Vegas ahead. The 51s would add four unearned runs, as Sean Rodriguez booted a two-out ground ball to extend the inning. Former Mountain View star Mitch Jones capped off the inning with a three-run double. Jones would drive in six runs with a double, triple and two home runs

Freddy Sandoval had a huge night for the Bees, as he went 2-for-5 with a homer and five runs batted in. Ryan Budde added three hits with a homer, while Adam Pavkovich chipped in three singles. The Las Vegas starting lineup featured three Dodgers on injury rehab. Rafael Furcal was 1-for-3 with an RBI double, Nomar Garciaparra was 0-for-2 with a walk and Andruw Jones went 1-for-3 with a home run.
