NORTH SALT LAKE — Police are investigating a tanker explosion that killed a South Weber man.

The explosion occurred just before 10 a.m. Monday at Mountain States Trailer, 54 N. 700 West. The company repairs and services semitrailers.

The victim was using an acetylene torch on the tanker trailer inside the shop when it exploded, said North Salt Lake Police Sgt. Mitch Gwilliam. The tanker being repaired hauls crude oil.

"We didn't have any fire at all," said North Salt Lake police officer Steve Simpson. "There was plenty of smoke. The explosion went up and put a hole through the roof."

Mathew Bolton, 30, of South Weber, died from his injuries.

Federal safety officials were also called to the scene to investigate.
