OREM Having come to Utah to perform before, Miley Cyrus is excited to return this Friday for the Freedom Festival's Fourth of July Stadium of Fire concert.
"I have been to Utah a couple of times," Cyrus told reporters during a conference call today. "I went on my tour and my friends are shooting some movies up there. And so I've been up there a couple of times, so I'm totally excited. Anytime I can do a show and I have places I have been before, they are always wonderful memories."
Saying she couldn't think of a better way to spend the Fourth of July, Cyrus said the Stadium of Fire is going to be like her own personal fireworks show, even if she may have to overcome a fear or two.
"I actually am really, really scared of fireworks so I would always sit in the car," Cyrus said about past Fourth of July celebrations. "Fireworks scare be so badly like on my concert tour. Anytime pyro goes off, I'm like crossing my fingers, I really don't like it. But I actually loved going to the fireworks show in downtown Franklin (Tenn.). I would always sit in the car and watch so I wouldn't have to hear the loud sounds."
Cyrus took about 30 minutes to get on the phone with reporters, but when she finally did get on the line, she apologized for the delay:
"Clumsy old me," Cyrus said, "I was getting into my trailer and I fell up the stairs and sprained my ankle. So that was just me being totally silly."
Tickets to the 58,000-seat show at LaVell Edwards Stadium sold out in a matter of minutes back in April, leaving many Cyrus-hungry fans out of luck for Friday's big production. After struggling at first to come up with a headline act for Stadium of Fire, organizers were pleased with landing a star as popular as Cyrus for the show.
Cyrus is most known for her hit Disney Channel show "Hannah Montana" in which she plays Hannah Stewart and her alter-ego music superstar Hannah Montana. Cyrus' real-life father, country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, plays her dad on the show. The duo, originally from Nashville, Tenn., have teamed up to perform together and hosted the 2008 CMT Music Awards in April.
Between October 2007 and January 2008, Cyrus headlined in her North American "Best of Both Worlds" tour. In 2006 Walt Disney Records released her first soundtrack titled, "Hannah Montana." The popular album was followed up with a double album in 2007 titled "Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus." On that album, Cyrus wrote eight of the 10 songs.
In addition to Cyrus, Stadium of Fire will feature the popular Blue Man Group of Las Vegas fame. The group, known for its unique multimedia theatrics show, performs worldwide from New York to Berlin to Tokyo.
Glenn Beck of CNN's Headline News, who spoke Sunday at the festival's Patriotic Service, will emcee the event. Beck hosts his own radio and television political talk shows. For the sixth consecutive year, Stadium of Fire will be telecast live to American troops stationed around the world."I think just my favorite thing about being able to work with my dad, it's been a blast, but it really keeps our family together. Because if he was in L.A. or I was in L.A., or we were mixed up, it just wouldn't be the same. So, I think it's awesome that we can keep our family together."
