The Deseret News editorial "Ban fireworks, period" (June 30) was completely ridiculous. Yes, wildfires are a problem, and, yes, they can be caused by fireworks. Let's ban them! While we're at it let's ban campfires and lightning. I mean, if there is one day of the year when we can "spark" patriotism and pride in our children, let's find a way to stop it.

If you allowed more fireworks in city limits (yes, even the high-flying aerial variety), you would have fewer wildfires, as people would be using fireworks in their front yards with no reason to run off to the hillsides for cover.
