According to the Deseret News headline, you believe a "lack of unity besets U.S., Utah GOP" (June 26). You missed the point and, therefore, the election. Party unity means nothing, but principles do. If you stick to the principles, unity will follow. Even in the reddest of red states, GOP leadership has strayed far from the party platform of free enterprise, private initiative and voluntarism. Self-serving tactics to ensure a party keeps elected positions and power is never appropriate.

Democrats want to increase taxes and have big government solve all our problems. At least they admit it. The GOP has given us somewhat lower taxes but a tax system full of clauses favoring some at the expense of others; a willingness to enact legislation that goes far beyond the principle of less government intervention; and no less appetite for government spending.
