In light of the recent shooting in Lehi, I propose a new safety measure for law enforcement during traffic stops. After pulling over, all motorists and passengers should be required to extend their arms and hands from an open window while the police officer approaches the vehicle. If a window is inaccessible to motorists, they should hold up both hands in the vehicle so officers know they are not trying to conceal weapons. If a motorist does not adhere to this rule, a police officer should reserve the right to draw his or her weapon and point it at the ground while approaching the vehicle.

Let's eliminate the variable of concealed weapons through this simple safety measure.
