CENTERVILLE — A pair of homes were evacuated overnight because of a field fire.

South Davis Metro Fire Chief Jim Rampton said the homes were evacuated as a precaution, when a field caught fire above an underground water storage facility near 700 East and 200 South. The fire started around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, the chief said.

"We believe it was a power line that arced," he said Thursday. "Right below it was some dry grass."

Strong winds pushed the flames, but firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the 2-acre blaze.
