A man in diabetic shock hit 16 cars on I-15 and I-80 before other cars finally forced him off the road.

The Utah Highway Patrol said the 61-year-old Salt Lake City man began swerving into cars on I-15 near 1300 South about 4 p.m. Wednesday. He turned onto eastbound I-80, hitting cars before being forced off the road at the State Street offramp, troopers said.

"They called police and we responded to where he was and called medical to come and treat him," UHP Trooper Cameron Roden said Thursday. "Once on scene, they were able to get his sugar levels to where they needed to be."

Damage to the cars was not major, although the man's car was "pretty trashed," Roden said. A 10-year-old boy was transported to St. Mark's Hospital to be treated for minor injuries in one of the crashes.
