Stacy Parkinson was likely the smallest competitor at the Mountain Dell Ladies Classic Wednesday, but she was the big winner, shooting a 1-under-par 70 on the Mountain Dell Lake Course.
The 19-year-old Alpine resident stands just 5-foot-1 and can't be more than 100 pounds, but that didn't keep her from beating 76 other golfers.
She made four birdies on the day, including a 20-foot putt on No. 17 to defeat Emily Copier by two shots. Parkinson and Copier, who won net honors in the First Flight, are teammates on the Weber State golf team.
"It's great," said Parkinson of her first victory since her junior golf days. "I hit every green today (in regulation). I don't hit the ball very far, but on this course I was hitting wedges into most greens."
Three golfers, Karen Killpack, Echo Thatcher and Patty Brimley tied for third at 73, while Deborah Rhees came in at 74 and Tenille Slack at 75.
Lani Rawlins won Second Flight with a 74, while Jeanne DeSchepper was the net winner at 61. In the Third Flight, Keiko Aoki won with an 85 and Keely Schurtz won net honors with a 64.Cheryl Ause won Fourth Flight with an 87 with Sandra Simpson taking net honors with a 62, while Bonnie Lyngle won Fifth Flight with a 90 and Gina Reike winning the net with a 66.
