Homeless advocates want to change Utah law to allow young people to stay overnight in shelters.

Zach Bale, director of the Homeless Youth Resource Center in Salt Lake City, says that under the current law, if a young person stays overnight at the shelter, his organization could be seen as harboring a minor.

The organization plans on asking the Utah Legislature to change the law about overnight stays in the next session, which is in 2009.

His organization is hoping to start an overnight shelter for people 15 to 23 years old.
