A woman was killed and a child injured Saturday afternoon in a rollover on I-80 in Parleys Canyon.
Utah Highway Patrol trooper Todd Johnson said the car was headed east in the left lane, passing other vehicles, when it veered right and rolled several times at about 8950 East.
The accident, which happened at about 1:35 p.m., resulted in several calls to emergency dispatchers and shut down the interstate so medical helicopters could land.
Witnesses pulled Ines Gamez, 29, from the vehicle, which was reported to be upside down in a ravine. They performed CPR, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hyman Gamez, 7, also was in the vehicle. Authorities do not know whether the child was restrained because he crawled out of wreckage before witnesses or emergency personal arrived at the scene. He was transferred to Primary Children's Medical Center with minor injuries to his head and is expected to recover, Johnson said.
