SALT LAKE CITY — The number of working artists in Utah is on the rise and growing fast.

That's the finding from a first-time study by the National Endowment for the Arts.

The "Artists in the Workforce" study compared census data from 1990 and 2000. Over the 10 years, the number of working artists in Utah grew 44 percent, from 10,032 to 14,425. Only Nevada, 66 percent, had a faster rate. Overall, the study ranked Utah 21st in total number of working artists.
