SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police here are looking for a man who tried to steal an ATM.

Three men entered Maverik Country Store, 2650 S. Main, about 2 a.m. on Sunday. While two of the men distracted the clerk, the third went behind the counter and tried to open the register, said South Salt Lake police officer Gary Keller.

When that failed, the man walked to the ATM and can be seen in store surveillance video trying to move it by pushing and pulling. When that failed, the three men left the store.

About 45 minutes later, however, the man who tried to steal the automated teller machine returned and tried to buy a drink. But when the clerk opened the register, Keller said, the man this time leaned over the counter, took an undisclosed amount of cash and ran.

Anyone with information on the robbery can call police at 840-4000.
