A 20-year-old Layton man drowned while swimming in Pineview Reservoir on Sunday night.
Around 6:45 p.m., Ceasar Hernandez was swimming out to get an inflatable ball near Cemetery Point when he went under and never resurfaced, said Weber County Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Creager.
A number of factors likely played a part in the drowning, Creager said.
Hernandez was not in a designated swimming zone, and the wake from a passing jet ski "caught him and caused him to bounce up and down," Creager said. Hernandez had been eating before swimming and was wearing denim jeans that likely became too heavy in the 50-degree water.
A patrol boat and helicopter searched for the man. Weber County officials pulled Hernandez's body from the water around 8:30 p.m.
