The Muscular Dystrophy Association is hosting a benefit to raise money to fight more than 43 neuromuscular diseases that affect people of all ages in the Salt Lake community.

The annual "Stride and Ride" will be held Saturday, June 28. Registration and refreshments begin at 8 a.m. and the walk will take place at 9 a.m. at This Is the Place Heritage Park.

Funds raised through Stride and Ride help provide expert medical care at MDA clinics, MDA summer camps for youngsters, repair and purchase of wheelchairs and other equipment, and many more services. MDA also funds hundreds of scientists worldwide seeking treatments and cures.

Participants can walk as individuals or sign up to be team captains. MDA will supply all of the material needed to raise funds and/or to recruit and motivate team members.

Anyone raising a minimum of $700 will be entered in a drawing for a "Total Fitness Package" — a two-month membership at the Sports Mall with eight personal training sessions. The team that raises the most money will receive a VIP package to a Grizzlies game for all of their team members. The individual that who raises the most funds will receive two JetBlue domestic airline tickets, with a $1,000 minimum donation.
