A man killed in a Saturday motorcycle accident has been identified as 48-year-old Robert John McLaughlin.
McLaughlin died after hitting a parked Utah Highway Patrol vehicle around 6 p.m. near the I-80/I-215 interchange on the east side of the valley. The UHP trooper was aiding another motorcyclist who had crashed, but was not injured, in the same area a short time earlier. The UHP vehicle was unoccupied at the time of the collision.
Salt Lake police had investigated the incident and said Sunday that it appeared McLaughlin had lost control in loose gravel on the shoulder of the road before hitting the trooper's vehicle. No one else was injured in the incident.
