A man was killed Saturday when his motorcycle ran into the back of a Utah Highway Patrol vehicle parked on the side of the highway.
Around 6 p.m., a trooper had pulled over to investigate another accident involving a motorcycle that had lost control on a turn and crashed on the side of the road. The UHP vehicle was off to the side near the I-80/I-215 interchange on the east side of the valley when a second motorcycle did the same as the first and hit the patrol car.
The officer was not in the vehicle and was not injured, said UHP Lt. Steve Winward.
The second cyclist died on impact, according to Winward. The first accident was being cleared at the time and the initial cyclist, who was not injured, had already left the scene.
Salt Lake City police were investigating the second accident and had not released the name of the man who died.
