WEST JORDAN — A 5-year-old boy survived a near-drowning in a busy neighborhood pool Saturday after a 10-year-old neighbor called for help.

Just before 7 p.m., the 10-year-old had seen the younger boy floating face-down at the pool, near 5500 West and 9000 South. After tapping the boy on the shoulder and not getting any response, the older boy alerted nearby adults and the 5-year-old was grabbed out of the water, said West Jordan Fire Battalion Chief Rodger Broome.

"It was not preventable, but the 10-year-old knowing what to do made a difference," Broome said.

Paramedics were able to revive the boy and he was later transported to Primary Children's Hospital. Before leaving the scene, emergency workers said the boy's vital signs were "improved," Broome said.
