Geoffrey Baker (Readers' Forum, June 12) said we should raise gas taxes. This is very focused on the Wasatch Front and ignores rural Utah. Rural America has no mass transit to fall back on. Worse yet, jobs typically aren't available near to home, requiring long commutes. We already pay plenty more for food and gas than Baker, often with less income.
The free market will dictate behavior quite well. We don't need further government intervention. What we need is investment and exploration. Encourage that. Don't penalize us any further, please.
