One man was killed Thursday evening in a three-vehicle accident on state Route 111 near 5900 South.

Media sources report that a man driving a pickup was making a U-turn when his vehicle was hit by a semitruck pulling two belly-dump trailers. A third truck, coming from the opposite direction, hit one of the trailers, ran off the road and burst into flames.

Salt Lake County sheriff dispatch supervisor Adam Almond said a sheriff's department employee called the incident in at about 5:30 p.m., reporting that a man was trapped in the burning truck. Multiple agencies responded, including the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department, West Valley police, West Jordan police and the Utah Highway Patrol.

The man trapped in the truck died at the scene, and SR 111 was closed for nearly five hours.

Law enforcement was still investigating the accident late Thursday.
