GENOLA — In 2005, Phil Harold persuaded the Genola City Council to take a leap of faith and let him bring in Earl Thomas Conley to entertain at the annual city festival.

The next year, he got permission to bring in the Country Gold Tour 2006 featuring five major country artists.

Last year, four big names signed on for the event.

This year Genola officials are planning to pack the arena at the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds with a two-night, eight-artist concert lineup combined with an outdoor expo that includes family archery, rock climbing, fishing and shooting events.

On tap are Aaron Tippin and Daryle Singletary for tonight's concert.

On Saturday, Leroy VanDyke, T.G. Sheppard and Moe Bandy return to entertain the crowd along with Helen Cornelius, T. Graham Brown and Jim Ed Brown.

Phil Harold, public works director for Genola and "a radio guy with all these contacts," said big crowds are expected along with an enthusiastic welcome for the country stars.

"We've outgrown Genola, what the parks can hold," Harold said. "We're really excited about being in Spanish Fork and about the expo, which is bringing some high-end vendors in."

The outdoor expo includes a BB gun shoot, rock climbing wall and a fishing pond stocked with live trout. There are also camping, hunting and fishing exhibits along with prizes to be won.

Harold said the plan for next year and after that is to hold the concert event at the fairgrounds and build upon the past several year's success.
