Utah football's recruiting efforts have landed a fifth early commitment for 2009.
The latest addition is Jamal Smith, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound receiver out of Oxnard High School in California. Smith caught 31 passes for 594 yards and three touchdowns last season. He also rushed for a score. As a sophomore, he had 14 catches for 182 yards and a touchdown.
Besides size and athleticism, Smith has speed and is one of his state's top runners in the 200 meters. He's a talented basketball player as well.
Smith is expected to join lineman Vyncent Jones (Jordan HS), safety Jarrad Stewart (Pearland HS, Texas), running back Chris Brown (Newbury Park HS, Calif,) and wide receiver C.J. Porter (Concord HS, Calif.) in signing letters-of-intent with the Utes in February.
