BUENA VISTA, Va. -- Happiness comes from following the prophets of God, Bruce L. and Christine Olsen told Latter-day Saints gathered on the campus of Southern Virginia University Saturday for the second session of its annual two-day Education Conference.

Learning to follow the prophet did not come easy for the two of us, said Bruce Olsen, managing director of public affairs for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Both he and his wife were raised by parents who were not fully active in the church. We had to carve out our own North Star just like converts have to do.

Christine Olsen explained that she has come to know that following the prophet is anything but blind.

Its a conscious choice, based on faith, she said.

The Olsens outlined some of the themes from the administrations of presidents of the church in the last 50 years.
