A group looking for an endangered species of cactus in remote Emery County came upon human remains Friday evening, said Sheriff LaMar Guymon.

The body was found in a rocky crevice just off state Route 6, southeast of Wellington, Guymon said. Police believe it had been there for years.

Detectives investigated the scene into the night, then sent the remains to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Salt Lake City. Police are looking for clues as to cause of death and identity.

Emery County plans to release more information in the case today. Guymon said.
