COLORADO SPRINGS — The Bees erupted for five runs in the third inning and never looked back, knocking off the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 8-5 on Friday night.

Salt Lake trailed 1-0 going into the third, but Matt Brown tied the game with a run-scoring double and the Bees took the lead on a sacrifice fly by Freddy Sandoval. A wild pitch by Sky Sox starter Josh Towers (4-5) brought home Dee Brown and Adam Morrissey capped off the inning with a two-run double.

Morrissey led the Bees with three hits, including two doubles, and three runs batted in, while Dee Brown added three hits and one RBI. Gary Patchett also delivered three of the Bees' 17 hits, while Matt Brown chipped in a double, triple and an RBI.

Giancarlo Alvarado (4-1) picked up his first win since May 5 in Nashville, as he allowed four runs on three hits in 6 2/3 innings with a season-high eight strikeouts. Jason Bulger worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his third save.

The Sky Sox and Bees square off again tonight at 7 and again Sunday at 1 p.m.

Salt Lake returns home for a four-game set against Tacoma beginning Monday.
