LAYTON — What should you do with expired or unwanted prescription medications? The Layton Police Department has a new option for area residents — a special disposal container.

The department has received a grant from the Utah Department of Environmental Quality to provide the public with a disposal container for unwanted or expired prescription medications. The container is located in the lobby of the police department, 429 N. Wasatch Drive.

The prescription drug disposal program will allow people to properly dispose of unused medications. The program provides an environmentally safe alternative to disposing of medications in the landfill or sewer system, which may later negatively affect the environment.

The collection box is a steel container that is marked as a disposal site for prescription drugs.

People may deposit medications into the container 24 hours per day, seven days a week. The disposal of these medications can be done anonymously.
