A Brigham City man who called to report a crime has now been charged with one of his own.

The 45-year-old man called West Jordan police in 2004 to report a robbery in which his laptop was stolen from his car. But according to charges filed Wednesday in 3rd District Court, that laptop contained child pornography.

During the investigation, the man told police that he had traveled to West Jordan to see a female he had met on the Internet. He also told police that he had "recorded sexual acts and other pornography" on his computer, according to the charges.

Police informed the defendant that the woman he was attempting to meet was under the age of 18 and asked if he had images of child pornography on his computer. The defendant consented to a search.

The defendant's laptop was later found in the robbery suspect's car and confiscated by police, according to the charges. Police found that the laptop had images and video files of children engaging in sexual acts.

The man faces 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
