PROVO — A swimmer went to the hospital in serious condition Thursday after being pulled from a pool in Provo.

Two men reported to police that they were sitting in a hot tub by the pool at the Glenwood Apartments on 1565 N. University Ave. and noticed a man swimming alone. The men said that after a while they didn't hear any more splashing, and one of them went over to the pool to investigate. The man noticed the swimmer on the bottom of the pool in 8 feet of water and pulled him out, Provo police said.

The man performed CPR on the swimmer until paramedics arrived. Paramedics continued efforts to resuscitate the man before he was transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Police didn't know exactly how long the man had been under water, but the two men believed it to be a short time.

Police did not release the man's name, pending notification of family. Police said the man appeared to be an inexperienced swimmer and called the incident accidental.
