OREM — Driving on the interstate while smoking a marijuana pipe is not the best idea ever, especially if your daughter is in the back seat and a Utah Highway patrolman is watching.

A Pleasant Grove woman was arrested Wednesday evening on investigation of child endangerment, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to signal, according to a 4th District Court affidavit of probable cause.

A UHP officer was traveling northbound on I-15 near Orem when he observed a woman in the center lane putting a blue pipe up to her mouth and lighting it, according to the affidavit. The officer said the car then quickly crossed two lanes and exited the freeway, according to the affidavit.

Once off the freeway, the car stopped at a light and the officer noticed a cloud of smoke being blown out the driver's side window as he pulled up behind, according to the affidavit. The officer pulled the car over and said he could smell marijuana coming from the car, according to the affidavit.

The officer said a man was riding in the front passenger seat of the car and the driver's 5-year-old daughter was riding in the back seat, according to the affidavit.

The officer asked her for the pipe and she handed him the pipe and a bag of marijuana, both of which she had retrieved from her bra, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit and the officer, the woman told him that she was stupid for driving and smoking marijuana with her daughter in the vehicle.
