When President Bush told the Knesset that we would never negotiate with Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, ostensibly because it would do no good, he demonstrated his well-deserved reputation as a historical illiterate. Isn't he aware that Richard Nixon went to China to talk to Mao Zedong, that Ronald Reagan negotiated with the Soviets, that John Kennedy probably prevented a nuclear war by negotiating with Russia and Cuba?

The guys with whom former presidents have negotiated are so far past Ahmadinejad in terms of brutality that Bush must have no sense of historical proportion at all.
