The idea that Salt Lake City is now pressuring Craig Mecham to clean up his demolition site is absurd, seeing as they are the ones who allowed the whole debacle to begin. Sugar House has always been a separate place with a distinct flavor and look — a walkable community with a nature preserve, small shops nestled among large ones and beautiful views of the Wasatch Mountains. Then the City Council decided we needed seven-story buildings, and Mecham couldn't wait to tear down the unique buildings that made our community so attractive. Gone are the shops, our view corridor and the unique feeling of the neighborhood.

The architectural drawing in the June 2 paper proves just how little he understands or cares about the unique look of Sugar House.
