Westminster College on Friday broke ground on its new Meldrum Science Center, a $25 million state-of-the-art facility that will be Utah's first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified science building.

The center will also house more than $1 million in new science equipment, giving Westminster undergraduates the opportunity to do research on equipment usually reserved for graduate students. The facility is scheduled to open in spring 2010.

Donors to the project include John and Ginger Giovale, and Pete and Cathie Meldrum.
