OGDEN — A 16-year-old football player died Saturday during a touch football tournament at the Weber County Fairgrounds, authorities said.

Layton High School student Kade Cooper collapsed on the field about 1:30 p.m. while returning to the huddle after play, according to the Weber County Sheriff's Office. Cooper had been participating in a 7 on 7 passing tournament.

Trainers were unable to revive the teen using CPR and a defibrillator. He was transported to Mckay Dee Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a press release.

Cooper suffered no obvious injuries on the field and had been very active and healthy, according to a release by the sheriff's office. The Medical Examiners Office is investigating the cause of death.
