One person was killed and four others injured in a collison on I-80 near Grantsville Friday night.
Details of the incident were still being sorted out late Friday, but Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Plank said the accident appears to have been caused by a sport utility vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the westbound lane. Plank said investigators believe the vehicle collided with a slow-moving pickup truck traveling in the same direction and both vehicles ended up off the highway. UHP officials closed I-80 following the accident.
In addition to the fatality there were two people in critical condition, one person in serious condition and one person with minor injuries after the crash. At least two air medical units responded to the scene and all four injured people were transported to hospitals.
I-80 remained closed late Friday night as the UHP continued to investigate the accident.
