PLEASANT GROVE — A 16-month-old girl died Thursday afternoon after being struck by a minivan backing out of the driveway of her family's home. An adult female family member was driving the van and did not hear warnings yelled by a neighbor who witnessed the incident.

Pleasant Grove police Sgt. Edward Amacher said the girl was playing in the fenced front yard of the home with several other children but managed to open the latched gate and get onto the driveway.

Amacher said the girl was transported by ambulance to Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem where she was pronounced dead.

The incident occurred about 3:45 p.m. at a residence near 1100 East and 900 South in Pleasant Grove.
