VOLLEYBALL: Four members of the men's volleyball team were recognized as 2008 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Volleyball Academic All-Conference selections. BYU's three setters — Brian Congelliere, Reed Chilton and Yamil Perez — received the academic honor, along with libero Leandro Justen. The Cougars joined 37 other student-athletes from around the conference who were cited for maintaining a 3.0 or better cumulative grade-point average and participating in 50 percent or more of the team's matches.

Southern Virginia

BASEBALL: Senior shortstop Greg Larsen of Orem has been named to the 2008 Academic All-District Second Team. Larsen batted leadoff for the Knights and finished with a .367 average. He led the team with 55 hits, 37 stolen bases and tied for the team lead with 12 doubles. Larsen also drove in 20 runs and had a team-best .473 on-base percentage. A business major, Larsen is Southern Virginia's first baseball player to earn academic All-District honors in District 3.

Dixie State

SOFTBALL: Dixie State pitcher Brittnie Whipple was named Freshman of the Yea, and Dixie's Haley Schumers was named Player of the Year by the PacWest Conference Tuesday. Schumers was also named All-PacWest first-team third base and second team pitcher. Dixie State also landed junior outfielders Dabney McIntyre of Taylorsville and senior Carli Jones of Mesa, Ariz., on the first team along with junior Jessie Dunn of Lancaster, Calif., who was chosen as the First Team flex.
