Two of Utah's most promising cyclists may be headed to Italy for the UCI mountain bike world championships in June.
Mitchell Peterson and Robie Squire, both from Sandy, were nominated by USA Cycling to represent the United States at the June 17-22 competitions as cross country specialists. Neither are assured spots in the competition, but are listed as discretionary selections. USAC will announce its formal world championship roster on June 9.
Peterson, who rides for MonaVie/Cannondale, will compete in the U23 division and Squire, who has been tearing up the junior scene riding for Devo, has been nominated to compete in the juniors division.
The world championships will be held in Val di Sole, Italy.
