A man who was hit by a car in Spanish Fork Canyon Friday after escaping from a rollover died Saturday at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.

According to a Utah Highway Patrol report, Frank R. Mell, 21, Spanish Fork, died late Saturday morning from head trauma he sustained as a result of being struck by a car that left U.S. 6 in the same location where he and four others had just wrecked a pickup truck.

All five people had exited the truck and were on the shoulder when a passenger car slid off the road and struck four of the five. Mell and one other person were airlifted to hospitals, while another victim was transported by ambulance.

UHP Sgt. Blaine Robbins said wet, slippery roads and travel at unsafe speeds contributed to the back-to-back accidents.

The driver of the car, a 28-year-old Springville woman, received only minor injuries.
