WEST VALLEY CITY An investigation into a midlevel drug ring resulted in the arrests of five people Thursday.
Detectives said it is disturbing that several of the people arrested already have been arrested for drug distribution and deported from the U.S. at least once before.
The investigation, which lasted several months, included undercover officers making multiple purchases of cocaine and heroin from the suspects, said West Valley Police Capt. Tom McLachlan.
Four men and a woman were arrested in two locations earlier this week. One was at a business near 2750 West and 3500 South, McLachlan said. The business had nothing to do with the distribution ring.
The second was at a residence near 4300 West and 3100 South. A total of three cars, a half-pound of cocaine, four ounces of heroin and $10,000 cash were seized. Investigators believe the group's drug sales averaged $15,000 a day, McLachlan said.
One man who was arrested already has been deported twice. Another had been deported once and had outstanding warrants from another state for drug distribution. A third man already has spent time in a California prison for drug trafficking and smuggling, McLachlan said.
Police were still investigating Friday to whom the group was selling its drugs, he said.
