LAYTON — A second person has died as a result of a traffic accident here earlier this week.

Dean Arave, 82, died soon after the accident. His wife, Verna Arave, 80, who had been in the hospital since the May 19 accident, died Wednesday, Layton police announced Friday.

The Araves were in a vehicle hit by a car that ran a red light near Hill Field Road and Highway 193 just before 10 a.m. Monday, according to Layton police. Verna Arave was taken to Ogden Regional Medical Center, initially reported to be in non-life threatening condition.

A 27-year-old woman who police say was driving the vehicle that ran the red light was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released. Investigators said Friday they are awaiting toxicology reports to be returned before screening the case with the Davis County Attorney's Office for possible charges.
