OREM — Southbound travelers on I-15 crawled down the freeway Friday afternoon after a van pulling a camper rolled, blocking three lanes.

Around 2:30 Friday afternoon, an elderly man was heading south near the American Fork 500 East exit when a semitrailer truck whizzed by, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden.

The driver told troopers the gust of wind caused his older camping trailer to start weaving back and forth.

The man said he never regained control of his van and trailer, and both vehicles turned sideways and rolled, blocking all the lanes except the car-pool lane, Roden said.

The man had to be extricated from the van but had only minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution, Roden said.

Traffic was blocked for nearly half an hour but was still slow for hours after.
