Police have identified a man who shot and killed himself when his van was stopped after a robbery in Salt Lake City Wednesday afternoon.

Douglas G. Reed, 50, was wanted in connection with at least two armed robberies in the city, including the Wednesday robbery of One Stop Smoke Shop, 1427 S. 300 West, according to a statement from the Salt Lake Police Department.

Witnesses said a white van was used in that robbery. Shortly after receiving the call, police stopped Reed's van on 900 East near 1100 South. During the stop, Reed shot himself in the head, police said.

Reed was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
