Fire caused nearly $100,000 in damage to a duplex late Tuesday night.

The flames sparked in the back bedroom of a duplex near 1350 E. 4200 South just before 11 p.m., said Ben Sharer, a public information officer for the Unified Fire Authority.

Flames destroyed the top level of the duplex. The lower level and an adjacent duplex suffered smoke damage, Sharer said.

Firefighters were still mopping up hot spots around midnight, and investigators had not determined a cause. A woman was inside the duplex when the fire started, Sharer said. She was treated for minor smoke inhalation and released at the scene.
