TAYLORSVILLE The Royals brought their "A" game to the Valley Softball Complex as they took out Timpview 11-3 in the one-loss bracket to advance to a game against Snow Canyon in the next round.
And they did it all in two big innings. They came out swinging to start things off in the first a the first six batters got on base with a single, two walks and three doubles. McCall Pratt picked up a trio of RBIs with her double, Krystin Jachim added a pair with her double, and Cierra Mitchell added a double of her own while the Royals scored six runs to give themselves a huge advantage early.
But after the shaky first, the T-Birds settled in and halted the Roy scoring, cooling them off until the sixth, when they picked up five more runs.
All five came after an error with two outs kept the Royals alive. MaCauley Flint added an RBI double to her earlier single, and Shaylee Barfuss added a three run home run over the right center fence to give Roy plenty of cushion in the contest.
Timpview did pick up its first run in the top of the third on a walk to Cydnee Robinson and a single to McKenzie Morris. Then after another single in the fifth by Michon Marchant, the girl who's been leading the T-Birds in hitting all season long, Susan Vogtman, nailed a home run over the right center fence for two RBIs and giving the T-Birds their third run.
"She stepped it up all year long. We rely on her to get on base every single game, and she does everything we ask of her," Timpview coach Debbie Dodds said of the senior third baseman.
