Anti-gun legislation continues to appear in Congress. At least three bills (HR96, S2577, S1807) are designed to impose background checks on private firearms transactions simply because they happen to occur at gun shows. Gun dealers are already required to conduct background checks on buyers, whether at stores or in a gun show. Gun-control advocates claim there is a gun-show loophole that allegedly allows criminals to buy guns at gun shows. Congresswoman Diana DeGette, D-Colo., dishonestly says that 70 percent of crime guns come from gun shows. However, multiple government studies prove gun shows are not a source of "crime guns" — that less than 2 percent of criminal guns come from gun shows. These bills will increase the already bloated federal bureaucracy and will result in innocent persons inadvertently violating new laws.

There are few places on earth that are safer than a gun show. Enough is enough! Congress must reject any attempt to regulate private transfers of firearms between law-abiding persons, including at gun shows.
