POINT OF THE MOUNTAIN — A hang-glider was flown to the hospital in serious condition after crashing into the mountainside Monday afternoon.

The man, 50, was flying alone when he turned sharply and crashed into the ground at a high speed around 4:30 p.m., according to the Unified Fire Authority.

The man suffered cuts on his face, head injuries and possibly dislocated his left shoulder.

"Fortunately, this man was wearing a helmet. If a helmet wasn't worn, this accident could have been catastrophic," according to a statement from UFA officials.

The man was flown to a nearby hospital.
