The Machara Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping improve the quality of life in southern Sudan, will hold its first Memorial Day walk-a-thon on Monday.
The fundraiser begins at 9 a.m. at 107 E. Vista Drive and will continue through the Ensign Peak trailhead. The walk is about one hour.
The event includes a meet-and-greet at 8:30 a.m. with a few of the "Lost Boys" of Sudan, a group of about 27,000 boys orphaned and/or displaced during the Second Sudanese Civil War. In 2001, about 3,800 Lost Boys were relocated to the United States. Walk-a-thon participants can make donations or get pledges from friends.
