OREM — The Utah Department of Transportation on Tuesday will close two southbound lanes of Interstate 15 near the 1600 North exit in Orem.

The closures will start at 10 p.m. The lanes will be closed in order inspect a bridge, which recently sustained damage.

"Apparently the structure was hit," said UDOT Public Information Manager Scott Thompson. "I'm not exactly sure what hit the bridge but they need to come inspect it to make sure the integrity of the bridge has not been threatened in any way."

The lanes are expected to reopen at 6 a.m. Wednesday, but the schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather, equipment problems or an emergency.

Two lanes will close, but one will remain open for open for southbound traffic. The closure should not impact northbound traffic.

UDOT encourages motorists to use caution and travel at the posted speed limits while driving through the area. These inspections are fairly routine when a bridge has been damaged.

"We are scheduling it so it does not effect the majority of commuters in Utah County so it should only effect those traveling throughout the night," Thompson said.
